Effective Date
  1. Packages on a shelf in the centers are held for 10 days.
  2. Packages in a locker: These are held for 7 days. If not picked up within that time, the package will be transferred to a shelf in the center(s) and kept for 3 more days.
  3. Stanford MPS will attempt to return packages to the sender after 10 days. In most cases, carriers require the sender to initiate the return and provide a return label for the package to be sent back and for any refund to be processed. If you would like MPS to process the return on your behalf, please submit a ServiceNow ticket, attach the return label, and include all relevant details so our staff can process the return for you.
  4. Perishable items: All perishable items will not be refrigerated, outside of the ice and or cooling method they are shipped with. Students will be notified that the package has perishable written on it and to pick up ASAP. After 3 days the perishable package(s) will be disposed of if it was not picked up. No holds or extensions for perishable packages.
  5. Medication: Medication that is NOT critical, time sensitive, or temperature sensitive and that does not require special treatment – could be sent to the Stanford Warehouse (8424 Central Ave, Newark, CA 94560). For medication that is critical and requires special treatment upon delivery, the Vaden health care center does not recommend sending that to campus via the mail and package program. They recommend that you send your prescriptions to the Walgreens at Vaden on campus or a local pharmacy for pickup. Click here for more information.
  6. Bulk ordering: Due to space limitations in the package centers, students are required to notify staff through the ServiceNow portal in advance. This policy is for all orders (e.g. bulk tshirt orders, swag for events, etc.) with more than 20 packages/boxes at once.
  7. Other Deliveries: Flowers and food, (Door Dash, Uber Eats, Amazon Fresh, Groceries, etc) will not be processed or held in the package centers. Any such deliveries will be marked as "not accepted" and returned by the center employees. Students need to treat groceries and flowers like a Door Dash delivery and have them sent directly to the address of the recipient.
  8. During Fall Move-In period, there will be no requests approved for extended holds beyond the 10 day hold period, due to space constraints on high package volume in the centers.
  9. Alcohol Ordering: Stanford does not have a permit to transport and deliver alcohol to campus or otherwise. Do not order alcohol and have it sent to the warehouse, our staff will not be able to deliver it to campus.
  10. For any package pickup concerns or issues, whether from a locker or the package center, the issue must be reported within 24 hours of retrieval so our staff can investigate. Concerns should be reported immediately to Mail and Package Services through a ServiceNow ticket. After 24 hours, MPS waives liability for the package, as it is past the point where an investigation can occur.
